Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a long history of institutionalization and stigma due to a lack of understanding and awareness by individuals in society. For a long time, these individuals were sheltered away from society for being different; whether that be different physically, mentally, verbally, or behaviorally.
As a psychology student, I have found myself interested in topics surrounding the community and issues surrounding individuals with disabilities.
